Everyday Is Sunday

about

With only a couple of years under their belts as a band, QUBINOIX (pron. “cube-in-o-wuh”) ((キュビノワ)) arrive carrying over two decades of direct experience shaping the landscape of 90s/00s Japanese shoegaze and alternative rock.

Founding members Ichimaki (guitar, vocals) and Tetsu (bass) made the move from the buzzing city lights of Tokyo to Shizuoka —the prefecture with a population of just under four million known for the majestic Mt. Fuji — entering a new scene with a renewed energy. Both artists share a past as members of legendary Japanese heavy-hitter bands Coaltar of the Deepers, Soak and BP.

Drawing influence from the huge guitar sounds of J. Mascis and the unwavering layered techniques of My Bloody Valentine, Ichimaki and Tetsu formed QUBINOIX and quietly released their debut EP Cubic Room in 2021. Tapping back into their network of promoters and bookers, the band performed live for the first time the following year at Shinjuku Nine Spices in Tokyo. With more gigs to follow, they’d soon land their current full-time drummer Yuki and begin working on new recordings. Yuki brings with him a ferocious speed and lockstep tightness behind the kit; with a style reminiscent of Rick Buckler (The Jam) and Grant Hart (Husker Du) that elevates the delivery of QUBINOIX’ poppy punk rock sensibilities.
